Our Stay at Dead Horse Ranch State Park
What a funny name. I had to find out about that from the first time I heard the name. In the 1940s a family was looking to buy a ranch and they had looked at a few. One of these ranches has a dead horse on the property. The parents asked their children which ranch they like best and their response was the one with the dead horse. So, they bought that ranch and named it Dead Horse Ranch. Years later the ranch was sold to the state, but one of the stipulations was that they not change the name, so the name remains to this day.
The teepee tent on the left side of this picture is out campsite.
The state park has more than 20 miles of trails for hikers, bikers and equestrians. We did not do too much hiking at the state park, but it was a great place for us to camp while we visited Sedona, Montezuma Castle and Montezuma Well National Monuments.
This is ‘roughing it’ at it’s finest.
