I think I’m falling in love with West Virginia.
I work the last three days (my 12-hour shifts) and every morning I get to see the mountains on the way to work. When I complete my work day and head back home I get to see the mountains on my drive. When I look out the window at work I see the pretty brick buildings of Charleston, West Virginia (with the mountains in the background). Are you seeing a common theme? I love the mountains, I always have.
The Smokey Mountains were my first love, but in the past year I’ve been able to visit mountains in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Idaho, Utah, Washington, Oregon and California. I don’t discriminate- I’ve loved them all. They’re all different and I appreciated their differences, their uniqueness.
I’m enjoying getting to know some of the people here. I’m learning about the people I’m working with- a hand-full are travelers, like me, and some are West Virginia Natives. I’ve had some great conversations with patients, family and visitors. I have a crazy long list on my phone of recommendations for places to go, see and do. Yesterday a patient family member wrote out a list for me that covered the front and back of a piece of paper. It was so incredibly amazing and sweet! I cannot wait to start on my lists!
The people here seem to really love their state and they have great pride. It’s been a great experience so far.
