Sedona- the beautiful red rocks of Arizona.
If you ever visit Arizona may sure you plan a trip to Sedona. It amazes me how different Sedona is from where we currently live in Arizona. This area is surrounded with big, beautiful red rocks. Drive 15 minutes from Sedona and you find yourself on top of mountains with a 6,000 foot elevation with snow capped mountains in the distance.
We stopped at one of the many national park service day use areas. It was a great spot to get out, eat lunch and explore a bit. Behind our picnic area was a river. This area is very unlike where we live in Buckeye, Arizona. It is not nearly as dry and there are green trees everywhere. For a moment I felt as if I were back in the mountains of North Carolina.
The river is captured in some of the pictures below. The kids enjoyed jumping from rock to rock along the river. The weather is amazing and the skies are clear. We love it here.
The photo above captures our girls having a snowball fight. Being raised in SC, seeing snow is a rare occurrence for us. We pulled over on the side of the road so that they could play in it. After the snowball fights we climbed back into the car and drove a few more miles to an overlook with facilities.
In the picture above you can see the snow capped mountains that surround us. The kids get a real treat when we get to the overlook. There’s tons of snow pushed out of the parking lot into hills. The kids had a great time playing in it.
We were surrounded with beautiful views.
I got a big kick out of this sign in the restroom and had to take a picture of it. When I visited China in 2007 I got to experience the restroom there- pretty much a porcelain bowl flush with the floor that you squat over. I’m assuming that sometimes people visit the US and they are unaware that we sit on the commode, we do not put our feet on it and squat. One of my friends was a missionary and she got a kick out of this picture as well.

I’m not sure what kind of tree this is, but I thought it was neat looking. This is near cathedral rock where we went to take a hike.
A panoramic of the view from Cathedral Rock, Sedona.
Like I said, if you have the opportunity to visit Sedona- go! I would have loved to spend more time sightseeing and hiking. In town, there was all kinds of neat shops and restaurants that we just didn’t have time to explore. There are also Route 66 towns near by that would be a lot of fun to explore.
