Our Visit to Montezuma Castle National Monument
One of my favorite things to do while traveling is to visit the National Parks an Monuments. Today we visited Montezuma Castle. The main attraction is a 5-story structure that with 45 rooms built into the side of a cliff. Early American settlers mistakenly thought that it was Aztec in origin, which is where the name Montezuma came from.
The girls participated in the Junior Ranger program and gained knowledge about the native people of this area and how innovative they were.
The area boasts beautiful Arizona Sycamore trees.
Another dwelling, this one down by the river.
This is a 400 year old Arizona Sycamore Tree that we are standing by.
These are an example of some of the irrigation canals that the native people built hundreds of years ago. That they are still here is amazing.
