It’s been an ‘interesting’ few days here in West Virginia.
I wrote about how we unpacked the U-Haul and started unpacking and settling in. Well, sometime my husband’s back started really bothering him. He has a few bulging discs that he had had injected a few times over the years. So, I’m sure yard work at home and then moving a trailer of stuff did no favors to his back. Then he starts with chills, dizziness and nausea. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday he spent in bed alternating between freezing and burning up with fevers. Needless to say our anniversary weekend was not a all like I expected. But I celebrated with my girls and poor Jay has made it out of the bedroom on occasion.
The girls made me breakfast in bed Sunday morning- eggs, fruit and waffles. They did a great job. In the afternoon we decided to go hiking in Kanahwa State Forest, just outside of Charleston. Google maps got us there and we stopped by the Forest Office to get some trails maps and advice on where to start out. We chose Davis Creek Trail as a good place to start out.
We walked for a while and then ate our lunch at one of the many picnic areas. There were a bit of people there, especially considering it was a weekend and mother’s day, but it wasn’t crowded. Most of the trail we were on ran right beside a creek (thus the name, I guess, Davis Creek Trail). The creek was clear and cold. On the way back down from our hike we stopped by the creek and took our shoes and socks off. The kids got in and waded around. They even tricked poor Skeeter into a swim, but after that she and I sat on a rock and watched the girls.
It was a lovely day- not too hot and not chilly. There was a lot of tree cover so even though it was a warm day, it was comfortable. We completed our day with pizza and a movie at home. Hope you all had a great Mother’s Day!
