Today we took advantage of some of the community events and headed out to the FestiVall Art Parade. We parked out the Capital Market and walked down Capital Street. We haven’t visited this area yet so we took the opportunity walking to our parade spot to do some serious window shopping. It was a beautiful morning.
So, we started at Capital Market. We parked and began to walk down capital to where the art parade was scheduled to begin at 10 am. As we walked I had the opportunity to observe some of Charleston’s buildings. The architecture here is so pretty. I have a real thing for old buildings and bridges and this area is filled with both. We ran into a family from our apartment complex and we watched the parade with them. I laughed when we saw them- they are the only family we know in West Virginia and we ran into them. The parade was cute and Juliette, especially, enjoyed it.
After the parade we continued to walk down Capital towards the Kanawha River. There’s a chili cook off there today and people were hard at work setting up tables and making their chili. This area is also where the Friday Night Live on the Levee takes place, an event with live music. Again, this was a first for us, as we had not visited this area of Charleston, yet.
We headed back towards Capital Market and made a few stops along the way- my favorite, a book store with a coffee house. I love books. They also had some local art and Blenko glass. We passed the library as well, but none of my gang wanted to take a look inside. My natives were getting hungry so we headed back to our car where I had stashed our lunch. We ate outside the Capital Market. Afterwards we headed inside to look around. Jaelyn stayed home the last time I visited the market with my husband and younger daughter.
This area seems to always have free events. I already wrote about how impressed I was by Charleston’s museum and the fact that there is no admission fee. And the state and county parks that we have visited so far- none have charges admission. It’s been awesome.
