Today we ventured out to visit Historic Sahuaro Ranch in Glendale, Arizona. The historic ranch is 17 acres with 13 original outbuildings including corrals, stables, a dairy barn, milk house, rose garden, barnyard and historic orchards. Admission is free. The history of this place gives you a taste of the old ‘wild west’. The main house at Sahuaro Ranch was built in 1891.The ranch operated from 1886-1980.
Walking around and looking at the main house, barn, blacksmithing shop and barnyard gives a nice snapshot of what a ranch would have looked like in the late 1800s.
We enjoyed looking at all of the buildings, but more than that we enjoyed seeing some of the animals that were roaming about on the property- peacocks, rabbits and chickens. We also enjoyed the different fruit and citrus trees that we are unaccustomed to seeing in SC.
Right next to the ranch are picnic areas with grills, playgrounds, a dog park, and sports fields and courts. By visiting the Glendale, Arizona website you can read about the ranch, parks, and the interesting history of how the Arizona Canal changed this part of the ‘Wild West’.
