A beautiful view at Montezuma Well. We finished our day by stopping by another National Monument. We saw more ancient cliff dwelling and we gazed upon the mystery of Montezuma well. The water here has too much carbon dioxide for fish to survive. Only a few organisms can live in this water. Where the water originates has been a mystery and in recent history discovered as flowing through channels of rock underground.
While exploring the area I told one of the rangers that the leeches in the water were probable enough to deter me from jumping into that very inviting body of water on this warm day- she informed me that the may rattlesnakes at the waters edge might provide a deterrent as well. Yes!
