So, I haven’t sat down to write a post in a while. It’s been busy. Three 12 hour shifts, off one day, three 12 hour shifts, an 8 hour drive to SC, a day filled with Dr. appointments and a to-do list, an 8 hour drive to West Virginia and then three 12 hour shifts. Whew, that was my time ‘off’ from blogging and posting on social media. So, hopefully, as I enjoy a 7 day stretch off from work (yes!) I can catch up with some posts I’ve wanted to write.
Yesterday was a day filled with grocery shopping and birthday gift shopping for the now 13 year old. Today my eldest daughter, Jaelyn, turned 13. Part of me, I think, is in shock. I’m not quite sure how this happened and not at all prepared for it. It seems yesterday that she came into the world- a difficult entering into the world, for sure, and amazed us with that pretty red hair of hers. Now I’m looking into the face of a young lady. And I know that my days left with her, like this, at home with me, are soon going to end. I just pray that I truly cherish each day we’re given.
So today was Jaelyn’s day. She had very simple requests- she wanted to go fishing and eat pizza and french fries for dinner. And so we did. Jay and Juliette went to the store this morning where Jay purchased a fishing license and some night crawlers. An out of state fishing license for West Virginia is $50 for anyone who might be interested (a little better than Washington state where it was $80). While the they were at the store I cooked up some sausage and corn on the cob for us to enjoy for lunch while fishing. We decided to check out the fishing at Wine Cellar park that I mentioned in a prior post. They have a stocked lake.
Well, Jay caught a few fish, but that was the extend of it. I didn’t get a fishing license- I was there for the view. I enjoyed catching up on some vitamin D. The day was lovely. I’m working on a video on homeschooling that I recorded while there, you can hear the birds in the background and the sun was out. We also saw a family of geese playing and catching their own fish, as well as a momma bird dining on a dragon fly and I caught a nice picture of a dragon fly.
After about four and a half hours of fishing at the lake we headed back home. After showering Jaelyn and I headed out to pick out a movie and her birthday pizza and french fries. I’m not a big fan, but my girls love Little Caesar’s Pizza, and that’s where we went. We picked out the movie, Murder on the Orient Express, and then went onto McDonalds for french fries. Sounds pretty teenagerish to me.
After dinner we gave Jaelyn her gift- a smart TV and DVD player. She was surprised and very happy, I think. She’s not too expressive with her emotions- her introvertness surpasses mine, but I think she was happy. It’s not very often they get such extravagant gifts, but I wanted 13 to be special. She a pretty low maintenance kid (so far), as you can tell by her birthday celebration requests. Just keep me in your prayers, yall- I now have a teenager!
