Well, we on our way to a new travel nursing assignment in a new area. We are traveling from Sunnyside, Wa to Stockton, California.
While talking with a nurse that I was working with in Yakima she shares with me that her family has camped a lot over the years. A lot of their camp sites have been free. I knew that there was land, like the Bureau of Land Management, that can be used for free camping, but this is something that I had seen in passing on FB groups and never really looked into.
Well, my husband did a Google search and found this site, freecampsites.net. Using this we found a place to camp on our way to the Redwood Forest. The place we ended up staying for the night was Claude Lewis Trailhead/ Sno-Park . The area had plenty of parking, restrooms (no running water) and it was very pretty- I the middle of the woods. There were only two other vehicles camping over night.
At these areas there are no hook-ups- no electric, water or sewer- but we make preparations beforehand. We fill our water and propane tanks. The stove is gas so we have a way to cook our meals-sometimes there is a ban on charcoal grills in the forest. Also, we will use the generator in the daytime hours for short periods to make coffee and use the microwave. Utilizing these free camp areas allows us to save money while traveling to the next assignment.
We enjoyed staying overnight and will definitely continue using freecampsites.net for future overnight stays. This provides a more serene surrounding when compare to a superstore parking lot for boondocking.
