Well, we made it to West Virginia yesterday evening. Our trip was pretty uneventful. We finished packing up the last minute things (refrigerated food, bedding, etc.) in the U-Haul trailer and made it on the road around 9:00 am. I have pretty much given up on trying to head out early at this point because it seems despite my very best efforts, it never happens. So, U Haul is loaded and we said our last minute good-byes to our family and hit the road.
We made it to Charleston, West Virginia sometime after 6:00 pm. We made a couple of stops throughout the day for gas and restroom breaks, plus stopped and ate lunch. The trip takes longer pulling the trailer. I drove this time so I may have driven a bit faster than Jay (or a little more than a bit at times for which I was scolded).
We found our apartment complex and the keys and map to the apartment in the lock box at the apartment office and then made a few circles before finding our apartment. And we’re on the third floor- yay! Well, this is good and bad. Good- there are no stomping people above us and we get exercise going up and down the stairs. Bad- we will be carrying all the contents of our U-Haul and van up three flights of stairs.
We made our first trip up to the apartment to check things out and see the layout and we have no furniture! I text my recruiter- we just got the the apartment and we have no furniture? Well, the furniture was supposed to be here, but for some reason has not been delivered and of coarse the furniture delivery company is not answering the phone. My company offered to put us in a hotel for the night, but we brought our camping gear so I tell her we’re happy just staying here.
So, we proceeded to lug the contents of the U-Haul up three flights of stairs. Did I burn off the bacon cheese burger I ate at Wendy’s? Probably not, but I’m hopeful. We got everything moved in and then started unpacking some things. The kitchen is unpacked and well, we will have to wait for the furniture to unpack clothes and some other things. We set up the TV and ate dinner in the living room picnic style while watching a movie.
At bedtime the girls made pallets on the floor and Jay and I slept on air mattresses. I slept well, but unfortunately woke up after 5am after going to bed around midnight. Everyone is still in bed as I sit typing.
On the agenda today?- Going grocery shopping. Tomorrow I begin work.
Pictures to Follow!

My husband had a roommate in the service from W.V. who always said he was from “West(by God) Virginia” For what THAT is worth. Will be traveling through your neck of the woods in about 3 weeks, God willing. Enjoy your self. You are in a beautiful place! I’ll be interested in your tales!

That’s what I hear, too. I’m told that West Virginia is God’s country. It is beautiful and I can’t wait to get out and see some of it. I can’t wait to go hiking! Thanks for the comment! Safe travels!
