Well, I warned you. I told you I’d be talking about Dave Ramsey and here I am, talking about Dave Ramsey. And I might as well- if you’re following what I’m writing then I might as well explain myself so if you don’t know what I’m talking about then we can at least be on the same page.
Dave Ramsey- author of many books- The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace University. Millionaire- went bankrupt- learned biblical principals about money- followed them- now multi-millionaire.
So, Dave’s plan- Baby Steps. Baby Step 1- save $1,000, done, check. Baby Step 2- payoff all debt, excluding the house-we’ll be here awhile.
The other day I cut up my credit card- My Disney Credit Card. I know rationally it’s pretty stupid, but I’ve never gotten so many compliments on a credit card before. It was Star Wars and I’m pretty sure I loved it. Sigh. BUT, I want be debt free. I got that credit card so I could rack up some Disney points to use on our next Disney World vacation. You know, to rack up points spending money that I would already be spending, right? I have over 600 points now. Do you realize that I had to spend over $60,000 to get that many points??!! It makes me sick just thinking about it. Sure- we paid our RV park rent in Arizona and Washington on that card, along with tires for our car in Arizona and our health-sharing program fees and our monthly cell phone bill, but good grief!
So, Jay’s on board with the budget and I’m on board with the budget and I cut up my beloved Disney credit card. What now? Well, a huge part of it will be staying motivated. Dave always says it’s ” eighty percent behavior and twenty percent head knowledge, you know what you to do, you just have to do it”. So far, I’ve read the Rachel Cruz book, Love Your Life, Not Theirs. Rachel Cruz is the daughter of Dave Ramsey and another financial guru in her own right. Also, I’m working on several books on being frugal and such. Reading, watching you tube videos, talking about it- that helps keep me motivated.
What also helps me stay motivated- thinking of the future. I could do so many things if I were debt free. I would be able to go on mission trips, travel more, work less….
Here we continue on..
